Gscene magazine’s June edition out now

The June 2019 edition of Gscene, Brighton’s LGBT news and listings magazine, is available online now! The cover features the very handsome Dave, modelling our 2019 t-shirt, with a backdrop of Brighton’s (well, Hove’s actually!) famous colourful beach huts on the seafront.

This issue contains information about Brighton Bear Weekend on pages 8 (overview, programme of events and Mr Brighton Bear competition) and 10 (Bearspace research project), as well as several bear-themed articles. Read it here!

A big thank you to Brighton-based photographer Nick Ford for taking this excellent photo of Dave!

The fabulous Bearycorn

The bearycorn – half bear, half unicorn – is a rare creature, but you can get your hands on one! We’ll be auctioning this beauty during Brighton Bear Weekend in June, with the sum raised going to support the Brighton Rainbow Fund as always.

Bearycorn by Nigelknits

This delightful creature was lovingly hand-knitted by Nigel of Nigelknits in West Yorkshire. He makes and sells a range of beautiful bears, hats and other items, and very kindly donated this unique one-off to us. Thank you, Nigel!

Meet Danny!

Will you be heading to Subline, Brighton’s biggest men-only club, for one of our official events there at Brighton Bear Weekend in June? If so, you’re bound to meet the very lovely Danny, pictured below, who will be behind the bar! (Click a picture to enlarge it.)

Our first event at Subline on the weekend will be the Mr Brighton Bear competition on Friday 14 June from 11:00 pm. Watch the contest and vote for your favourite! The winner will receive the Mr Brighton Bear 2019 title and a £200 cash prize. (If you’d like to enter, please complete this form.) The club will stay open until 4:00 am for drinking, dancing and cruising.

Our other official event will be Underbears on Sunday 16 June from 10:00 pm. After a hot and hectic weekend, it’s time to cool off by stripping down to your finest boxers, briefs, jock or anything else – there’s no dress code, but getting ’em off is always encouraged! Subline will again be open until 4:00 am for all kinds of shenanigans.

Entry for each event is £7, or only £5 with a wristband. Lockers to stow your clothes are available for a small fee. So get down there and say hi to Danny – he’s very friendly!

Join our cultural tours!

This year, for the first time at Brighton Bear Weekend, we’re offering you the chance to join us on two cultural tours of Brighton!

First, on Saturday 15 June, we’ll be visiting the Royal Pavilion for a tour of this fascinating and unique building – Queen Victoria’s palace by the sea, resplendent with Indian and Chinese-influenced decoration inside and out. If you haven’t been before, this is a must see! Read more about this tour.

On Sunday 16 June, we’ll head off on foot for the LGBT Walking Tour of Brighton, exploring the incredible history of the UK’s gayest city. Experience parts of the city you’ve never seen before as the guide talks you through queer history of famous buildings and unknown nooks and crannies! Read more about this tour.

Numbers for both tours are strictly limited and tickets are already selling fast, so if you’d like to come along, you can buy tickets in our online shop. See you there!
